Type 1 Diabetes changed our lives forever on August 21st, 2018. This was the day our 8 year old daughter was diagnosed. We didn't know the warning signs, we knew nothing about Type 1 Diabetes and we felt so incredibly alone. It has become our mission to spread awareness, help support and learn all that we can about this disease. Now we have the opportunity to help in such a huge way, that we never thought would be possible. Through our Service Dog Programs we are thrilled to be able to give back to the people who need assistance with the amazing support that these dogs can give.
Diabetic Alert Dogs are specifically trained to assist diabetics in their everyday lives. Their primary task is to alert their handler of an oncoming hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic event (low or high blood sugars.) A Diabetic Alert Dog's early detection of these events enables the handler to take steps to get their blood sugar back in normal range before it becomes dangerous. Bowen Elite Service Dogs serves people of all ages who are affected by Type 1 Diabetes. We believe that every family should have access to as many tools for Diabetes as possible and Diabetic Alert Dogs compliment those who do have pumps and CGM's and those who don't. We look forward to helping you get your own Diabetic Alert Dog!
This program includes 14-16 months of training. Your dog will be fully trained for public access, in obedience and trained in alerting to 90% of your out of range blood sugars. The benefits of this program are that your dog will be fully trained and has worked through all of their puppy behaviors. When the dog is ready to go home, we teach you all of the commands and training so that you will be successful in transitioning the dog to your lifestyle. We are a resource for life after your dog goes home with you!
We work with breeders around the U.S. that do health testing and puppy aptitude tests to ensure the puppy is fit for service work. We make it a priority to pick puppies based on the handler's specific needs as well.
Yes! It's highly recommended that you don't have a brand new puppy when your service dog comes home as they will both need more attention than you would be able to give.
Yes! We deliver dogs all over the U.S. and we spend 2 days with the handler and their family to teach them everything they need to know about their service dog and we help acclimate the pup to their new home.
We are trainers for the LIFE of the dog so we will always be there to help! We are a phone call, text message or email away with anything that may come up!
